Welcome to the:
Where I list books for writer's craft and development that I myself have enjoyed! I'll add more to this list, but these are some of my gems so far, I'll have to go through my shelves to find the rest that have really helped me grow as a writer.
Also, aside from just writing books, read books in your genre with a "writer's" eye. Do careful reading to really take notes and pin point why you are enjoying the book. What type of techniques do you see the author using? Emulate those skills and make them your own, translate them into your own work! Your favorite authors weren't BORN with their writing skills, they were learned by reading, and practicing by writing, writing, and more writing!
Plot & Structure: Techniques and Exercises for Crafting a Plot That Grips Readers from Start to Finish
If you're ever thinking something is missing from your draft, this book helps you go through the steps and you'll start saying, "Hey, I should add this, or change this to really intensify the story!"
The First Five Pages: A Writer's Guide To Staying Out of the Rejection Pile
After I complete a FULL draft (don't do editing before you have the complete idea down) I really enjoyed this book to fine tune my openings to make sure I snag those readers and keep them interested, these first five pages are also great stuff to know for the rest of your pages too!
The Breakout Novelist: Craft and Strategies for Career Fiction Writers
Great advise in this one, I never actually used the step by step to complete a full draft, but the information in it inspires me and helps me hone my skills.
Writing Deep Scenes: Plotting Your Story Through Action, Emotion, and Theme
I found this one while at PNWA conference and it truly is awesome, I find myself going back to chapters and re-reading this after completing a draft.
